Gnawa Jazz Fusion

Traditional Gnawa rhythms meet modern jazz — music that moves, connects, and carries you.

We blend authentic Gnawa repertoire from North Africa with jazz-fusion elements, creating a sound that is both deeply traditional and boldly contemporary. Read on to discover the roots, the rhythm, and the journey behind Chabiba.

WHAT IS GNAWA?

Gnawa is a spiritual musical tradition from North Africa, preserved for generations by people of different backgrounds through lived cultural practice. It is rooted in rhythm, song, and collective experience. Gnawa music is known for its driving grooves, repetitive patterns, and trance-like energy that brings people together through movement and sound.

Chabiba’s Sound

We take authentic Gnawa repertoire and jazz-fusion to create an entirely new listening experience.

Driving African rhythms, which make it impossible for anyone to sit still, meet modern jazz harmonies, creating a sound that carries our audience into a shared, almost trance-like experience. Traditional and contemporary sounds flow together — dance, rhythm, and improvisation in constant dialogue.

Live Experience

A Chabiba performance is built around rhythm, movement, and connection.

The powerful grooves invite people to dance, while layered vocals and percussion guide the audience through a musical journey that feels both grounding and uplifting. It’s music meant to be felt with the whole body — a space where listening naturally turns into moving.
